چکیده

Dear Reader, You may have noticed a slight difference in the appearance of the cover of this issue of the Journal of Adhesive Dentistry. A new line has been added: “Official Journal of the International Academy for Adhesive Dentistry (IAAD)”. Let me explain what this means. It started with a dream, as expressed by M. Blatz in the last issue’s editorial (J Adhes Dent 15: 103–104, 2013). Since then, the idea has gained so much momentum that during the 5th International Congress on Adhesive Dentistry (IAD) in Philadelphia, a group of 75 scientists and dental practitioners met to discuss the international promotion of adhesive dentistry for the benefit of our patients. We all realized that the right time has come, and consensus was quickly reached that creating a worldwide organization was the right thing to do. Therefore, the group decided to become the founding members of the “International Academy for Adhesive Dentistry” and founded the IAAD on June 14th, 2013. The IAAD sees itself not only as a worldwide promoter of adhesive dentistry, but also as a translator of dental adhesive science for dental practitioners. The founders decided to make the Journal of Adhesive Dentistry the official journal of the IAAD, with subscription included in the membership fee. Pages 393–394 of this issue are devoted to the IAAD, explaining its purpose and goals. Information about IAAD activities will be regularly provided, and practitioners’ clinical problems related to adhesion will be addressed as well. Thus, the Journal of Adhesive Dentistry’s editorial team is convinced that this is a definite win-win situation. We will expand our base and at the same time acquire more clinical input. With a wider dissemination of the Journal of Adhesive Dentistry, we have taken the first step towards further promotion of our knowledge and its application in dentistry. We are looking forward to very fruitful cooperation with the IAAD. Worldwide promotion of adhesion in dentistry – a dream? Not anymore; the first step towards its realization has been taken! Now we must all work on that to expand minimally invasive dentistry through adhesion.
